Abortion Decision in South Dakota

Dear Vision America Supporter,

In a 7-4 decision in Planned Parenthood v. Rounds, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a South Dakota law requiring abortionists to notify women seeking an abortion in writing that "abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being."

They affirmed that the unborn child is human! This is a major move in making abortion history and a huge step towards overturning Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that opened up the abortion floodgates in America.

The Court held that in order to challenge the statute, Planned Parenthood would have to prove the statement false, misleading or irrelevant. The organization offered no such evidence, because it couldn't--because none exists. Fetal development isn't a matter of opinion or conjecture; it is scientific fact.

By the third week, the unborn child's heart begins to beat with its own blood. Its blood type is often different from its mother's. By the fifth week, its hands, legs and eyes all begin to develop. By the sixth week, brain waves are detectable. By the seventh week, toes and eyelids form, the nose is distinct and the baby begins kicking. And in the eighth week--well inside the first trimester when most abortions take place -- every organ is in place.

It takes a willful act of ideological blindness to deny the reality of the unborn child's humanity. The 8th Circuit Appeals Court said it's perfectly reasonable and constitutional for South Dakota to require abortionists to disclose that reality to pregnant women. Equally important, Planned Parenthood v. Rounds marks the first time a U.S. Appeals Court has gone this far in recognizing the humanity of the unborn child.

South Dakota will also have an amendment on the November ballot banning all abortions in the state except to save the mother's life, or in the exceedingly rare cases of rape or incest. I assert all states should follow suit and join South Dakota in this important victory for unborn children.

McCain’s Running Mate?

Last week I was invited to sit down with over 90 conservative Christian leaders to discuss the candidacy of John McCain. Hosted by my good friend Mat Staver, of Liberty Counsel, the discussion was energetic and impassioned. Many strong opinions and convictions were shared and the passion we all have for our nation was very clear--and one of the central themes of our discussion was Mike Huckabee.

As you know, I consider Mike Huckabee a personal friend and strongly supported his presidential candidacy as a private citizen. He is not currently running for any office, but if he ever does I will be right there beside him again. He is a godly man, and wherever he serves--whether in business, politics or the pulpit--he would be an incredible force for change in our nation.

And this sentiment was shared by many of us who came together in Denver. And I join with my friends in suggesting that Huckabee would be an excellent vice-presidential candidate for John McCain.

The choice is McCain's and if he wants to reach out to conservative Christians, the choice would make sense.

If you have an opinion on who McCain or Obama should select as their running mates, you can contact Obama here and contact McCain here. As I continually state, you have a voice--let it be heard!

Obama would force faith-based groups to hire everybody

"If you get a federal grant, you can't use that grant money to proselytize to the people you help, and you can't discriminate against them -- or against the people you hire -- on the basis of their religion."

These were the words uttered on July 1 to a crowd outside a community center in Ohio by presidential candidate Barack Obama. His words on hiring hit many of us across the face, because until this point Obama had been positioning himself as a friend to faith-based organizations.

What this statement means is under an Obama presidency, if your church receives federal money to run any of its outreach programs, you will no longer be able to select the people you choose based on adherence to your beliefs and values. You will be forced to hire homosexuals, adulterers and atheists, anyone who applies regardless of their faith or morality--or refuse to take federal money.

This is an absolute violation of the true separation of church and state. The true separation of church and state was the goal of the First Amendment which was designed to keep the government out of the church's business, but not the other way around.

We saw something similar back in the 1950s, when churches that had been tax-exempt under the law since 1913 were suddenly restricted from involvement in political activity by an amendment passed into law in 1954. From that point on, the IRS had the job of making sure churches kept their mouths shut about politics and our biblical duty to be involved in society was hampered and diminished.

Now Obama wants to do the same with faith-based groups who reach out with compassion to those less fortunate around us.  We cannot allow this. We must speak up against this move. You can contact Obama here and let him know what you think about his move to kick faith-based groups out of the federal funding mix.
Thank you for taking the time to read this e-mail alert. I am looking and praying for Pastors and Patriot Partners who will help me restore our nation.  Please consider becoming a Patriot Partner. Your donation of even $25 allows us to continue our work nationwide on your behalf - standing for the values and morals that beat in all our hearts.  Select here to Support Vision America Action - which is a 501(c)(4) and not tax deductible but is God blessable and allows more freedom of speech on political issues. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.  God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
