Palin Defeats Biden the Old Fashion Way…With Truth, Honesty, Courage and Sincerity

In last night’s debate, the gloves were off and the pundits stepped aside while the two Vice Presidential candidates took center stage for   their only planned debate, and what a revelation Americans received.  Instead of the Saturday Night Live version of Sarah Palin, what America saw was the Monday morning Sarah, an everyday person who got fed up which politicians cramming money in their own pockets while spending their life getting re-elected saying whatever people want to hear, and decided to do something about it.

Unlike the image that Madison Avenue has created of Palin, which fits their stereotype of Christian womanhood, "barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen," what America saw was a poised, confident and assertive woman who knew who she was and where she wanted this country to go.  And the more Palin made that clear and exposed the differences in policy and practice of the two Presidential teams who would lead the country, the angrier and more like a politician Biden revealed himself to be.

Americans saw two approaches to leadership last night, and early returns reveal that the vast majority prefer statesmanship to political hacks who will say anything to get elected.  Joe Biden told at least 14 lies, and he told then with such gusto that it was shocking.  Here’s just a few of the more blatant ones that he stared into the camera and told the American people:

  1.  TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted "the exact same way" as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000....The record shows that to be a lie.
  2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING:Joe Biden said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. During his own bid for the Democratic nomination, Joe Biden attacked Obama with this charge!
  3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, "Drill we must." But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to "raping" the Outer Continental Shelf."
  4. REGULATION OF FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MACK: Biden purposely ignored the fact that the record shows McCain actually co-sponsored a bill that would have called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie and warned of imminent danger if more oversight wasn’t given to their lending practices, but was rebuffed.
  5. CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.
  6. IRAQ:  Joe Biden was wrong when he said that John McCain was "dead wrong on Iraq".  Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war but differed on the surge strategy.  John McCain has been proven right.
  7. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that the top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan has stated that there ARE principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.
  8. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000.  Even ordinary Americans understand that businesses must make a profit to stay in business and any additional taxes will have to be passed on to consumers in higher prices.  Indirect taxation is the most cowardly form of taxation.
  9. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden was lying when he stated that under Obama, Americans won't pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan. But set that aside.  The real question is, "Are higher taxes a good thing for an economy that is at the brink or not"?
  10. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely characterized Palin’s position on reforming the way big oil operated in Alaska, calling it a windfall profits tax.  She reformed the state tax and revenue system but it was not a windfall profits tax.  If a business or industry should be taxed for being too successful, why not Hollywood, entertainment or professional sports franchises in which some of Biden’s best support comes from individuals making tens of millions of dollars a year?  Why not require Oprah Winfrey to pay a windfall profit tax?  Answer?  Because America does not believe in punishing success!

Sarah Palin won last night because Americans saw a woman who could lead who has lived most of her life on Elm Street;  not K Street, or Wall Street or Rodeo Drive.  Authenticity always trumps style.  Biden has been a part of the problem for 36 years.  Palin has a clear track record of being a part of the solution and I believe people sensed that last night.

The new movie "Fireproof" has broken out and exceeded the expectations of movie industry analysts.  With opening weekend revenue of $6.8 million, it ranked "fourth" in gross revenue for the period.  This independent film with a $500,000 budget opened on less than 1,000 movie screens and experienced this success.  The film features a Christian message, with a theme of working through the difficulty of a troubled marriage, rather than celebrating divorce.

To put this success in perspective, gross revenue of $6.8 million in the category of "under 1,000 screens" for an opening weekend makes this the most successful movie in this category for 2008 so far!

Addressing conflict in marriage and the need to work through issues, rather than escaping conflict and difficulty through divorce is a message more couples need to hear.  This film has taken an approach to the topic consistent with Christian teaching, and far different from the standard fare that comes out of Hollywood.  For a more in depth review of what to expect from this outstanding movie, read more here.

Yet again Homosexual "Marriage" is being promoted in California, this time by highly recognizable manufacturers in conjunction with the usual suspects from Hollywood.  Clothing manufacturer Levi Strauss & Co., Pacific Gas and Electric and Google are joining with Hollywood activists, including Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg, to oppose Proposition 8 in the upcoming election.  These companies and others are providing hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations promoting the opposition to this ballot initiative, which adds verbiage to the California Constitution to recognize that marriage is only between one man and one woman.

It is sad when companies that owe their very success to Americans who, as a majority, reject homosexual "marriage," use that success to promote a "lifestyle" which is contrary to the Christian values of so many of their customers.  Only when we as Christians stand up and voice are displeasure with such actions by taking our business elsewhere, will the tide begin to turn against the vocal few who loudly demand affirmation for their depravity.

A scorecard on Life and Family issues for 110th Congress is now available from Focus on the Family. This report shows the voting record for each member of the House of Representatives on 17 issues important to Christians.  Similarly, the report shows the voting record for nine pieces of legislation brought before the Senate dealing with Life and Family value issues.

With the crucial 2008 elections only a few weeks away, this report makes it easy to review the voting record of the representatives from your state and district.  Please don’t miss this opportunity to be more informed about the votes that your representative made on these crucial issues.

In an uncharacteristically explicit manner, both presidential candidates recently made it easy to understand where they stand on the issue of abortion.  "The Buck Stops Here" video, available on YouTube, asks the important question: "Whatever happened to the Buck Stops Here?"  When candidates for the highest office in the land avoid stating their positions on something that is abundantly clear to Christians – when life begins, they are pointedly telling us that they don’t want us to know what they really believe.

As Christians, it is important we ask ourselves the question: "if you won’t tell us your position on this issue, on what other issues are you not telling us where you REALLY stand?"

With elections just around the corner, your "must read" list should include "Enough is Enough," written by Pastor Scarborough.  Phyllis Schlafly says; "Rick Scarborough has given Christians a powerful call to action, motivating us to tackle the task of restoring America to the great country we have been and can be again."

In the foreword, Dr. Tim LaHaye writes; "Will Christians have to save America again?"

When a woman is raped, it is a horrific event that leaves permanent emotional scars.  Yet some politicians are willing to seek out these victims for political gain.  When a woman’s attack is exploited in this way for political gain, we receive a true insight into the character and moral fiber of that politician. As a Christian, husband and father, I find it despicable that anyone would further exploit a fellow human being who has been through such trauma for their personal gain.  And this guy is running for president!

Women and the men, who care about the women in their lives, need to know what kind of person represents them.  With a mainstream media that is willing to look the other way when a candidate is shown to be engaged in such an abomination, Christians must be diligent in becoming informed about the candidates who seek their trust and votes.

People across America are asking "why?"  Why are we giving taxpayer dollars to organizations that are accused of engaging in illegal activity, with no accountability or recourse?  Recently published "Whistleblower Documents" illustrate the practices and tactics used by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to line their pockets with millions of taxpayer dollars.

ACORN appears to have simultaneously attacked lending institutions that they oppose for engaging in "predatory" lending practices, while simultaneously promoting the very same practices. Further, their funds from political activities may have been illegally "co-mingled" with their other activities for their financial gain.  Internal documents describe how ACORN has allegedly extorted financial institutions to make the very types of loans that are blamed for the credit crisis now faced in our financial markets, yet attacked the very institutions making these loans for putting people at risk unless they secured favorable treatment.

With HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of our tax dollars at stake, we are entitled to know why ACORN is receiving millions of taxpayer dollars to support their "consumer advocacy," while engaging in practices that are arguably illegal and clearly damaging our economy.
